index - The history

Index Productions is a part of the Norwegian PC demoscene.
If you don't know what the demoscene is, take a look here to find out.

It all started in the summmer of 1995, when St. George and I (cortex) decided to go to a demo-party for the first time. The party was Odyssey 95 in Norway, and we had a lot of fun there, even though it was not a very good party. During the party, we found out there was going to be a 4k intro competition, so we wanted to enter. We compiled some old code, and made an ugly little intro. The intro was called Desparate, and was bascailly just some text blurring out on the screen. It was all written ten minutes before the deadline, and it showed. We didn't place very well on the result list (4th), but at least we had made our first appearance on the big screen.

When we returned from Odyssey we found out we wanted to make a 64k intro, and so we did. The intro was called Exotic and was not a very good one. We released it, as the 4k at Odyssey, under the name of The Useless Corporation (TUC). It was a silly name, but we didn't have anything better to call us at the time. The Useless Corporation intially consisted of 5-6 members, who were all close friends of ours. The other members of TUC were not as interested in the demoscene as St. George and I, and therefore left the group after a short while.

During 1995 we met several other poeple interested in the demoscene, and decided to start a new group called Index. When Index was initially formed the member list looked like this:

      Alias Function
      ----- ---------
      amok code / gfx
      cortex code
      mellow organizer
      oce code / music
      react gfx / ansi
      roma code / gfx
      sode gfx / ansi
st. george code / gfx / music
After a short while all the new members of Index were either kicked out for various reasons, or left to join groups like Proxima and Sublogic. In the beginning of 1996, the only active members left were St. George and I. Once again it was just the two of us, as we sat down and made a 64k intro for the party Online 96. At OnLine 96 Index had three releases, a 64k intro called Exotic ][ (a follow up to Exotic), a fast-demo called Gel-O and a 4k intro called Plastic.

Shortly after Online 96 we were contacted by a talented musician, Zauron, who wanted to join our group. We reviewd some of his work, and after a short period of getting to know him better, he joined us. Zauron also hooked us up with another musician, Lioz, who joined shortly after. Index now had four members, and this is the same people who make up Index Productions today.
